OVER & OVER AGAIN

ALL ABOUT JAZZ
- Michael Bailey
Right out of the gate the listener will know that singer Paulette Dozier is an entertainer. The fact can readily be heard in her perfectly balanced alto, a voice crisp and confident, a voice that serves her well. The second thing the listener will note is Dozier employs a crack band and arranger in pianist Mike Levine, who proves no rear in his mixing of pop and jazz.

Over & Over Again is Dozier's second self-produced recording, her first being her 2006 With You, a release characterized by the same fine craftsmanship as the newer release. Paulette Dozier turns out to be the authentic item, singer, stage performer, provocateur. (read more)

EJAZZ NEWS - Edward Blanco
Following up her highly acclaimed 2005 release of “With You,” based in South Florida, Dozier teams up with a host of first-call musicians from the Miami/South Florida area to produce a gem of a recording.

Dozier continues her collaboration with pianist Mike Levine who appeared on her first album and serves here as producer and arranger. … Providing a power packed performance on Over & Over Again,” Paulette Dozier is simply wonderful and I’m sure once you hear it, will have you playing this disc, dare I say it, “Over & Over Again.” (read more)

JAZZ IMPROV - Bill Donaldson
Over & Over Again presents but one aspect of Paulette Dozier's many talents. Nonetheless, it showcases her jazz singing appeal with sympathetic arrangements and skilled sidemen. As intriguing in her own mesmerizing way as is, say, Cassandra Wilson, due to the force and suggestiveness of her alto range, Dozier no doubt has chosen the album's song list with care ... JAZZ MONTHLY.COM - Jonathan Widran
While the term “Renaissance Woman” might often be used to hype artists beyond their true array of talents and accomplishments, it’s appropriate (and maybe even an understatement) when trying to capture the essence of the remarkable Paulette Dozier. ...a great new jazz talent who is thoroughly modern yet decidedly classic and retro. Paulette Dozier’s latest album Over & Over Again is reminiscent of the days when 52nd Street in Manhattan, between 5th and 6th Avenues, was littered with jazz clubs during the late 1930’s and early 1940’s. ...Dozier, ... brings those days back to us with a meaty alto register that takes complete control of the reigns in the melodies, and hones a mellifluous resonance that is luxuriating as it penetrates the listens senses fully. There is no negative drawback in surrendering to Dozier’s bewitching voice. It does a soul good. (read more)

WITH YOU

ALL ABOUT JAZZ - Dan McClenaghan
Vocalist Paulette Dozier's presentation is impeccable. The CD cover and booklet photography reveal a well-turned-out lady: stylishly dressed, tastefully glamorous, perfectly coiffed, a picture of sophistication. Those images are truth in advertising with Dozier's music, and it just seems fitting that a woman who looks that way puts out such a polished and sophisticated musical effort on With You. The disc opens with... (read more)

AMG ALL MUSIC GUIDE (3 microphones out of four)- Doug Boynton WITH YOU
Ms. Dozier would appear to be one of those who does a little of this, and a little of that..., but she's quit-your-day-job good as a singer.  More people should hear Ms. Dozier.  Let's start with you. (read more )

EJAZZ NEWS (4 Stars) - John Gilbert WITH YOU
Jason Carder sneaks in a bit of Snookie Young in his trumpet solo on "How Sweet It Is" and Paulette Dozier swings this tune like it was meant to be. "Just In Time" is the best tune on this album. Dozier brightens things up along with the pianistic endeavors of Michael Levine who gently prods the ear with a brief but enjoyable message. Dozier finishes things up on a high note. Paulette Dozier is a fine singer with a superb group and when you put those two things together it works just as smoothly as cashmere feels. Look out for Michael Levine, he can play those ivories.

EJAZZ NEWS - Karl Stober
Paulette Dozier is coated with promise and sultry tones as is evident in her self released project With You. Ms. Dozier displays a fine range with the feel that is required to inject worthy jazz to the masses. "Ode To Billie and Freddy" is one heartfelt jazz ballad that captures some very fine tones and moods. This is one of the most worthy spins on this disc. (read more)

JAZZ REVIEW- H. Allen Williams
Paulette Dozier is a multi-talented entertainer, able to convincingly wear many hats without losing focus and most importantly the integrity of each role that is required by the hat. Dozier’s hat rack consist of: jazz vocalist, actress, model, voiceover performer, and pageant coach. Dozier, brandishing a jazz vocalist hat that is straight from the 1940s and garnished with contemporary accents, has compiled a mixture of eight well known standards and two originals to comprise a new release entitled, With You. The Paulette Dozier experience begins with ... (read more)

NEXUS NAGAZINE - Singing is one of humanity’s earliest forms of _expression; some authorities claim people sang even before they could speak! While music is the soundtrack to our lives, lyrics express our most profound and complex emotions, especially when presented by a world-class singer like Paulette Dozier. One of the first ladies of interpretive standards, her album WITH YOU (2005 PF&E) delivers jazz, pop and original tunes delivered in an unforgettable sultry voice with innovative phrasing.

RAMBLES - Adolf Goriup WITH YOU
Brilliant medley "Groovin' with Marvin," by far one of my favorites on the CD. The title song, the only totally self-made song on the album, is a beautiful and melancholic ballad. The recording succeeds quite well. a nice collection of jazz standards brought forward flawlessly -- and I like it.

Mark Namit of FLORIDA ATLANTIC UNIVERSITY'S UNIVERSITY PRESS ONLINE notes that in RESPECT: A Musical Journey of Women, "Miss Dozier is an excellent interpreter of standards. Her rendition of Billie Holiday's 'God Bless the Child' is her focal point. "Dozier, an accomplished jazz artist, gave a touching narration about Civil Rights and the struggle of black women, like Rosa parks, whose refusal to give up a seat on a bus led to historical rights for Blacks." ISLAND CITY NEWS - Bill Hawkins (RESPECT: A Musical Journey of Women)
